AIRPORT OPERATIONS
The Iowa City Municipal Airport, directed by the Airport Commission, provides a safe, cost- effective general aviation facility. The Airport creates and enriches economic, educational, healthcare, cultural, and recreational opportunities for the greater Iowa City community.
The Iowa City Airport Commission is a five member commission of Iowa City residents.
The Airport Commission duties are as follows: To exercise all the powers granted to cities and towns under Chapter 330 of the Code of Iowa, except the power to sell said airport. To annually certify the amount of taxes within the limitations of the Statutes of the State of Iowa to be levied for airport purposes. All funds derived from taxation or otherwise for airport purposes shall be under the full and absolute control of the Airport Commission, deposited with the City Treasurer, and disbursed only on the written warrants or order of the Airport Commission. HIGHLIGHTS The Iowa City Municipal Airport has secured over $12.5 million in state and federal grants since 2010 The University of Iowa continues to conduct research at their Operator Performance Laboratory at the Airport The Iowa Department of Transportation estimates that the Airport has an economic impact of over $11 million to the Iowa City area
