Department Mission The Center enhances quality of life by creating opportunities to support wellness, social connections, community engagement and lifelong learning for diverse and growing older adult population. Department Description The Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center (The Center) opened its doors in 1981 and has championed its vision for continued social involvement for community members aged 50+ and end social isolation. The Center offers a variety of in person and virtual classes, activities, volunteer opportunities, and services. The programs and services we offer meet the needs and interests of participants and community members. They also are known to support and extend a person’s health, wellbeing, and independence by fostering social connections, promoting mental and physical exercise, and encouraging community involvement.
