The district operates twenty elementary schools, three junior high schools, three senior high schools, and one alternative school for ninth through twelfth graders. Education is also provided through the Clear Creek – Amana Community School District, with certified enrollment of 2,920 for school year 2022-23. Iowa City is also home to Regina Catholic Education Center, a private Catholic institution, Willowwind School, a private K-8 school, and Preucil School of Music, specializing in the Suzuki method of instruction. Four year college programs and vocational training are available throughout the area including University of Iowa and Kirkwood Community College.
