FY27 Proposed Budget

• Housing Authority Public Housing owns and manages 86 public housing units. The Housing Authority serves as the landlord and rents these units to eligible tenants. They are low-density units scattered throughout Iowa City and were constructed to conform and blend into the existing neighborhood architecture.

Boards and Commissions:

• Housing and Community Development Commission considers, and reviews policies and planning documents related to the provision of housing, jobs, and services for low and moderate income residents, reviews policies and programs of the Neighborhood Services division and makes recommendations regarding the use of public funds to meet the needs of low and moderate income residents. The Commission also seeks public participation in assessing needs and identifying strategies to meet these needs.

Recent Accomplishments:

• Completed City Steps 2030, Iowa City’s Five -Year Consolidated Plan which guides the allocation of funding for activities serving low to moderate income residents over the next five years. • Preserved housing for two renters and 16 homeowners through city administered rental and owner-occupied rehab programs. • Assisted 4 households with home repair to mitigate environmental triggers for asthma or other lung disorders through the Healthy Homes program. • Partnered with GreenState Credit Union and Hills Bank to provide down payment assistance for 13 households in FY25. • Completed public facility improvements at the Shelter House Emergency Shelter which serves 70 people per night. • Funded 26 nonprofits through FY25 Aid to Agencies who collectively reported serving nearly 60,000 members of the Iowa City community. • Awarded $1,059,034 to 19 Legacy Agencies and $30,000 to five Non-Legacy Agencies through the FY26 Aid to Agency funding allocation. • Provided $700,000 in FY25 Affordable Housing Funds to the Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County who allocated funds to the following projects: o

Lot acquisition and new construction for homeownership with Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity which will serve seven households. o Acquisition funds for MYEP which will serve 3 households under 30% AMI. o Emergency shelter rehab at 429 Southgate Avenue with Shelter House.
