FY27 Proposed Budget

December 1 – December 5, 2025 City Manager’s office reviews budget requests to determine budget issues and discussion items; a comprehensive summary of significant budget issues is prepared. The Finance Department combines budget requests and long-range financial plans and prepares financial summaries. December 19, 2025 City Manager and Finance Department finalize departmental fiscal year 2027 budget requests, fiscal year 2026 revised budgets, Five-Year CIP, division goals and performance measures, and long-range financial plans. January 21 , 2026 The proposed City budget document including the Three-Year Financial Plan and division goals and performance measures is distributed to City Council. January 22 – March 3, 2026 City Manager and City Council discuss budget process overview, budget environment, proposed budget, CIP, significant budget issues, and to incorporate Council policy preferences. March 10, 2026 City Council approves notices of public hearing on the proposed maximum property tax dollars to be assessed for specified levies for fiscal year 2027. March 20, 2026 Publication of notice of public hearing on the proposed maximum property tax dollars to be assessed for specified levies for fiscal year 2027. April 7, 2026 City Council holds a special formal meeting for a public hearing regarding the maximum property tax dollars to be assessed for specified levies for the fiscal year 2027 budget.

City Council approves notices of public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2027 budget and the fiscal year 2026 revised budget.

City Council sets the hearings for service fee and rate changes for fiscal year 2027, if necessary.

April 10, 2026 Publication of notice of public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2027 budget and revised fiscal year 2026 budget. April 21, 2026 Following public hearings, the fiscal year 2027 budget, the Three-Year Financial Plan, the Five Year CIP, and the fiscal year 2026 revised budget are adopted by City Council. April 30, 2026 Adopted fiscal year 2027 budget and fiscal year 2026 revised budget are certified with Johnson County Auditor.

July 1, 2026 New fiscal year begins.
