When I was hired at the Iowa City Senior Center in the spring of 1997 as the Senior Clerk/Typist, I was happy simply to have a full-time job. What I didn’t know at that time was that it would quickly become my dream job. I have found inspiration in the people I met: those of you who embraced lifelong learning, those who have worked to stay physically fit when the body doesn’t always cooperate, and those of you who took the risk to meet new people and make new friends. Working with all of you has truly been one of the greatest joys of my career. Your creativity, kindness, and dedication have inspired me every day, and I will deeply miss our collaborations and the friendships we’ve built. For those of you who have worked with me to offer programs, thank you for everything you’ve done to make our programs—and our community—so special. You’ve helped make the Senior Center a place full of energy, learning, and connection, and I know that spirit will continue to grow in the years ahead. I’m not entirely sure what the future holds, but I’m looking forward to having the freedom to explore new possibilities— whether that means new projects, new hobbies, or simply enjoying more unstructured time.
