Family Folk Machine Sundays, Jan 12 - May 4, 2-4 pm Location: Assembly Room Register: Email jean@familyfolkmachine.org Director: Jean Littlejohn The Family Folk Machine will begin rehearsals for our Spring 2025 session on Sunday, Jan 12 at 2 pm in the Assembly Room. Our spring theme is Love: the energy that flows between us when we believe the best of each other and approach others with an open heart . The program will include songs by Kate Wolf, Sweet Honey in the Rock, R.E.M., and Greg Brown. We’ll perform a concert at the Englert on Sunday, May 4 at 3 pm. You can also just show up to our first rehearsal, but getting in touch beforehand will ensure that you receive up-to-date information about our gathering plans. Fee: $75 per adult, $50 per kid age 6+ and up, with reduced fees available; pay FFM. The FFM is a non auditioned ensemble, and everyone is welcome. Voices of Experience Tuesdays, Thursdays, Jan 14 - May 15, 1-2 pm Location: Assembly Room Register online or call 319-356-5220 Director: Jon Ranard Join the growing number of people that are choosing to share their talents and spirit as members of the Voices of Experience, the Iowa City Senior Center’s mixed-voice choral ensemble. Rehearsing on Tu/Th afternoons, VOE provides a place for people of all musical backgrounds and abilities to sing, learn, create, laugh, and enjoy the process in an all-inclusive, friendly, and family-like atmosphere. Performing diverse styles of music from Broadway to Opera, pop to sacred and secular classics, the Voices of Experience provides something for everyone, on and off the stage. Participants pay a $50 fee each season to cover instruction, music, and materials associated with this talented musical troupe. Be a part of the fun! Our first rehearsal will be Tuesday, Jan 14 at 1 pm in the Assembly Room. Membership required.

Sharing a wide variety of skits, original vintage radio scripts, parodies of famous plays and musicals, and providing humorous looks at all aspects of life, S.S.R.O. provides an outlet for fun, creativity, learning, and performance in a Readers Theatre format. Join us on Wednesdays afternoons at 2 pm as we rehearse, learn, laugh, create, and prepare for our final performance. Stage experience and memorization are not required, but a sense of humor and positive spirit are essential! All participants in S.S.R.O. are members of the Iowa City Senior Center, and no additional program fees are required. Our first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, Jan 15. You don’t want to miss the fun! Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or revisiting a long-loved hobby, our band is the perfect place to grow and learn together. Led by experienced University of Iowa School of Music instructors, our sessions are designed to support your musical journey at every level. Make lasting friendships as you rehearse and perform a variety of musical genres, from classics to contemporary favorites. Engaging rehearsals foster skill development and camaraderie. Smaller group ensembles are offered for clarinet, flute, percussion, brass, and saxophone. Playing with the band offers performance opportunities to spread musical joy and showcase your talent at local events and venues including the Senior Center, Englert Theatre, Voxman Music Building, local parks and festivals.
