89 N. Branch Basin Excavation

Aerial mapping done for the update to the flood plain maps revealed that sedimentation has consumed a portion of the capacity of the facility. This basin is located in Hickory Hill Park. Storm sewer retrofit to relieve localized flooding from storm water runoff. The area just north and south of Kineton Green, east of Sunset, has experienced back yard flooding and drainage problems. This will be a joint project with the University of Iowa to upgrade the Riverside Drive / Arts Campus storm sewer and lift station to perform better during future floods.

8 - Parks & Recreation 93 Recreation / Aquatic Center

As recommended in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, construct a major new Recreation & Aquatic Center, probably in the western part of Iowa City.

94 Mercer Park Pool Improvements This project would include the replacement of the two pool bulkheads, deck tile, dive stands, and the renovation of the women's locker room from a shared shower space to two separate shower spaces.

94 Waterworks Park Boat Ramp

This project is to add a boat ramp to access the Iowa River in the northeast corner of Waterworks Park. Improvements include a boat ramp, boat trailer parking, a boat dock, and an access road. Phase 4 of the Riverfront Crossings Park master plan adds a new river access, an amphitheater, a kayak launch, and new river trails. Construction of second restroom/shelter by Nature Play and second bridge to 2nd Street; also includes removing an abandoned trunk sewer line. Addition of an accessible boat access to the Iowa River from the parking lot at the Park Maintenance Shop. This project will extend the Iowa River Trail from Benton St to Highway 6, on the west side of the Iowa River. Future phases of the trail could extend to Sturgis Ferry Park and on top of the west side levee to McCollister Blvd. The project would involve constructing a trail connection under the Iowa Interstate Railroad that connects the existing trail along the west side of Ralston Creek, north of the Iowa Interstate Railroad, to the proposed trail that will be constructed along the west side of Ralston Creek as part of a development located south of the Iowa Interstate Railroad. Take steps to clear, re-seed and perform low impact development on the 38 acre sand prairie and adjacent McCollister property acquired in 2004/05. This project would reconfigure ball diamond #4 at Mercer Park to realign the field to a NW orientation. This would include the removal of the existing field, fencing, and Replace playground #1 at Kickers Athletic Complex as it is reaching the end of projected serviceable life. Project also adds ADA compliant paths.
