CITY ATTORNEY

The City Attorney’s Office represents the City in court litigation and provides legal advice, opinions, and services to City staff, boards, and commissions. The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council and works at the direction of the City Council. The City Attorney supervises the City Attorney's Office, including four Assistant City Attorneys. In addition, the City Attorney acts as Chief Legal Counsel to the City Council, City Manager, the various City departments and staff, and most City commissions, committees and boards. The City Attorney also reviews and approves proposed City ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents; oversees property acquisition needed for public improvements; prepares legal opinions for Council and City staff; and represents the City in litigation in which the City is involved, including violations of City ordinances.

Financial Highlights: Services expenditures for the fiscal year 2022 budget increased by 13.1% primarily due to higher ITS chargebacks. Additionally, Supplies expenditures increased by 23.9% due to the purchase of additional subscription reference materials in the fiscal year 2022 budget year.
