The mission of the Iowa City Fire Department is to protect our community by providing progressive, high-quality emergency and preventive services.

Department Description

The Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) provides progressive, high-quality emergency and preventive services to approximately 75,000 residents across 26 square miles, including the University of Iowa main campus. Staffed by 66 full-time firefighters operating from four stations with four engine companies, one truck company, and a command vehicle, the department delivers comprehensive fire suppression, emergency medical, technical rescue, and hazardous materials response. ICFD collaborates with local, state, and federal agencies and maintains specialized teams in Fire Investigations, Hazardous Materials Response, and Special Operations Rescue. Committed to professionalism and innovation, the department’s mission is to safeguard the community and enhance public safety for residents and visitors alike.
