Bingocize: Fun, Fitness, and Friends Wed, Fri, Oct 22 - Dec 19, 10:30-11:30 am Location: Room 309 Register online or call 319-356-5220 Join us for a program that combines Bingo, gentle exercise, and health education to support balance, strength, and healthy living. Stay active, connect with friends, and learn helpful wellness tips. This program is part of a University of Iowa research project on healthy aging and fall prevention. Participants who complete all sessions will receive a $30 gift card as compensation. Decreasing Stress and Anxiety Through Guided Imagery Instructor: Anke Fronz, Certified Health & Wellness Coach Guided imagery uses mental visualization to help increase relaxation and shift mind patterns. Use of guided imagery and/or meditation can help to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve sleep and immune function. People who practice guided imagery often notice improved focus, clarity, and coping skills. Thousands of studies have proven the many benefits of meditation, and use of these techniques can change your day-to-day flow and be fun and beneficial to your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual life. Fee: $40 for 4-week class ($30 for those with ICSC's low-income membership); pay instructor. Membership required. In this session, a panel of death midwives will share their roles in supporting individuals, families, and friends when someone is facing a terminal diagnosis or hospice and end-of-life. We’ll explore the backgrounds of the midwives and their areas of specialty, ranging from legacy projects to rituals to death plans to sitting vigil the last days/hours, as well as after-death plans and care for loved ones. Advance Care Planning Workshop Thursday, Nov 13, 12-2 pm Location: Room 302 Register online or call 319-356-5220 Instructor: Mary McCall We can't predict when a sudden illness or injury could leave us unable to communicate or make decisions. Learn how to talk about and document your health care preferences to ensure that your family, friends, and health care team know what's important to you and your wishes are honored. Join University of Iowa pharmacy students for a free Medication Take Back event. Safely dispose of your unwanted or expired medications and get expert answers to your medication-related questions. Participants can also create personalized medication cards and receive free medication management supplies, including pill cutters, pillboxes, travel medication packs, stickers, pens, and more. Join the University of Iowa Health Network team as they lead a 3-part diabetes educational series. At the first session, you will learn about diabetes and its impact on health. In the second session, we will discuss nutrition and exercise that are best for diabetes prevention and management. In the third session, we will delve deeper into eating well for diabetes, covering topics such as recipes, grocery shopping, and meal preparation. Membership required.
