Iowa City New Horizons Band Concerts Ensembles: Thursday, Dec 4, 2 pm Full Band: Tuesday, Dec 9, 2 pm Location: Assembly Room Check out the Iowa City New Horizons Band, with director Courtney Ridge, a doctoral student in Wind Conducting at the UI School of Music, in concert at the Senior Center. The exciting and challenging selection of pieces to be performed include several wind band standards as well as some more recent compositions, with the various moods of the pieces taking listeners on a journey from strikingly stirring to subtly sublime. In addition to this performance, you are also invited to a concert featuring a number of the band’s smaller woodwind and brass ensembles. ICNHB’s final appearance of the year will be in a Holiday Concert performed jointly with the Iowa City Community Band on Sunday, Dec 21, at 2 pm at the Englert Theatre. All concerts are free of charge. The band will begin its next season on Tuesday, Jan 20, with rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. New members are always welcome! SSRO Performance: These Are the Days Wednesday, Dec 10, 2 pm Location: Assembly Room Experience our one-of-a-kind Readers Theatre troupe as SSRO presents a show about the changes in seasons and in our lives. Enjoy original scripts created by our talented members as we share a unique look at Fall traditions, aging superheroes, parenting, senior moments, friendship, family, and a special cameo appearance by the Pomtastiks! Reminisce as we end with our special CliffsNotes version of the 1954 film White Christmas . A reception will immediately follow in the lobby. Voices of Experience Concert Thursday, Dec 18, 2 pm Location: Assembly Room Join the Voices of Experience, a 45-member mixed-voice choral ensemble, as we celebrate the joy of music. Performing a vast array of musical styles, we offer our unique renditions of songs made famous by the Manhattan Transfer, Bing Crosby, Linda Ronstadt, Roy Orbison, Kay Starr, The Bobs, Maureen McGovern, and many others. Hear additional selections that showcase the traditional Alfred Burt Carols along with new and familiar holiday melodies for audience members of all ages. A reception will immediately follow in the lobby.

Family Folk Machine Concert: Dreaming Iowa Sunday, Nov 9, 3 pm Location: Englert Theatre
Dreaming Iowa is a year-long project exploring Iowa's progressive and multicultural past and hopes for the future. Our fall concert features traditional songs from Iowa's German, Mexican, and Czech immigrants, along with traditional and newer American folk songs. We're looking forward to welcoming a couple of very special guest artists to share songs on the concert as well! This concert is free and open to all (with donations gratefully accepted). Do you love to dance, enjoy music, and want to share happiness with others? Come check out The Pomtastiks, a high-energy performance group that brings joy and entertainment to the community through choreographed dance! Come to our Open House to meet the group, see them perform, enjoy refreshments, and celebrate the joy of dance. The Pomtastiks have a repertoire of over 20 fun and lively routines using poms and props that add sparkle and pizzazz. Weekly practices keep everyone moving, laughing, and connected. Whether you are a seasoned dancer or simply love to move, we welcome new members who are eager to share smiles, spread happiness, delight audiences and celebrate to joy of dance throughout the community! SoundReach Concert Wednesday, Nov 19, 6:30 pm Location: Assembly Room SoundReach Choir is a performance group for adults with various disabilities, under the direction of music therapists from West Music. SoundReach is designed to provide a structured community music experience for those who may not have other opportunities to join a performance group, and these groups are offered in several cities around Iowa.
