Description This project involves the construction of a new transit facility for maintenance operations and storage. As part of this project, the storage area will be expanded allowing for an increase in fleet size and the maintenance facility will be upgraded. The relocation will address the environmental issues that exist at the current facility and allow for the redevelopment of a major commercial site at the corner of Highway 6 and Riverside Drive. Justification The current tranist maintenance facility has outlived its useful life and is in need of replacement. The facility has structural issues from the surrounding area, and a new facility will improve the delivery of service. The new facility would be eventually be consolidated with Equipment Services into one facility to better utilize space and be more cost effective. Budget Impact/Other The replacement of transit maintenance facility should be to a newer and more energy efficient facility, however, the new facility will be larger and contain more operational functionality. The additional size and capability of the facility will most likely offset the potential savings from a newer and more efficient facility. Additional savings/cost from this facility has not been determined.
