Description Construction of sidepath extension along Hwy 6 between Broadway Street and Fairmeadows Blvd and along First Avenue from the south side of Hwy 6 to Lower Muscatine Road. Justification This project is an extension of the Hwy 6 sidepath and is an integral piece of the planned trail network. The project appears in MPOJC documents as a 'future' sidewalk and also appears in the adopted 2017 Iowa City Bicycle Master Plan. This project also meets the Council's Strategic Plan goal of 'Enhancing Community Mobility' by substantially improving the sidewalk network. This is the last major segment of missing Hwy 6 trail and connects to the 2021 CIP funded segment between Heinz and Fairmeadows. Total Pr oject Cost: $1,700,000 Status Active

Budget Impact/Other This project will add 4,800 feet of sidepath to the Parks & Recreation Department snow plowing, mowing, and general maintenance expenses. Additional operating expenditures are estimated to be approximately than $10,000 per year.
