Supporting Immigrants in Johnson County Monday, Feb 9, 2-3 pm Location: Room 302 Register online or call 319-356-5220 Organizer: Craig Esbeck The Senior Center will host a panel discussion with local immigrant support groups following the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council (ICFRC) program, “Raiding the Heartland: An American Story of Deportation and Resistance,” that is scheduled on F, Feb 6 from 6-7 pm at the Iowa City Public Library. The panel discussion at the Senior Center will offer more information about what is happening in Johnson County to support immigrants. The panel discussion is for anyone interested in supporting immigrants in our community, whether you attend the ICFRC program or not. Growing Up With Radio: Golden Age, Now, and Beyond Sunday, Feb 15, 1-3 pm Join fellow community members who have a love for radio! Learn about the changing face of radio in the U.S. and Iowa City, including its newest radio station, KICI-LP, 105.3 FM. Learn how you can help a truly local station be successful. Hear from a member of the Jack Benny Fan Club (schedule permitting). Share radio memories and thoughts about radio’s possible future. Community Coffee & Table to Table Mondays, 9 am - 12 pm Location: 1st Floor Lobby Start your week off with a cup of joe and some informal conversation in the 1st floor lobby of the Senior Center. All are welcome! Free groceries via Table to Table are distributed in the Assembly Room, usually starting around 11 am; open to anyone in need. Participants are called in rotating order to enter the room to shop. A brief registration form is required the first time you attend, and then participants simply check-in each week to shop. No Community Coffee/Table to Table on Jan 19. Location: Room 302 Presenter: Craig Jarvie
Senior Center members are invited to FilmScene to view a new film each month, followed by a half hour discussion facilitated by Frank Murray. Screenings are open to the public and seating is first come, first served. Film titles are announced about two weeks in advance. Register with the Senior Center by 5 pm the day before each screening. Fee: $6; pay at FilmScene box office. Grand Babies: Story Time for All Ages Wednesdays, Jan 14, Feb 11, 9-10 am Location: Room 302 Looking to spend time with babies and young families? Want a fun, social outing that brightens your week? Join us for a relaxed, free, intergenerational story time filled with songs, play, laughter, and connection. All are welcome: grandparents, grand-friends, parents, nannies, and caregivers. Just drop in! Hosted by ICSC and the Iowa City Public Library, this free program fosters early literacy, social connections, and a sense of belonging across generations. MLK Jr. Day of Service Project: Volunteers will greet you at the Washington St. door to accept donations to help supply the ICSC pantry with non-perishable food and personal care items. See our pantry wishlist on page 20. We’re also collecting new, warm winter boots to give to our unhoused neighbors in need (via Shelter House). Device Advice Thursdays, Feb 5 - Apr 30, 2-3 pm Location: 2nd Floor South Device Advice is a UI student volunteer group that works to help shrink the digital divide between generations! Volunteers will be at the Senior Center to offer guidance on all things technology, so bring your devices and your questions. ICSC Food & Boot Drive Monday, Jan 19, 10 am - 2 pm
