LIFELONG LEARNING
There are various options for paying for long-term care: private pay, long-term-care insurance, Medicaid, and VA benefits. While Medicare sometimes pays the costs of long-term care for a while, it never pays for an extended nursing home stay. Medicaid is the program that pays for long-term care, but it can be confusing, especially if you’re in the middle of a health crisis or caring for someone who is. We’ll talk about how quali fying for Medicaid works for people who are married and single. Specifically we will discuss the division of assets, the options for spending down assets, the five year look-back period for making gifts, and the exceptions to the gifting rules. Membership required.
